Interior Design vs. Interior Styling: What You Need to Know

Ever wondered what the difference is between interior design and interior styling? You’re in good company. It’s a question we get all the time, and we’re here to answer it for you.

What is interior styling?

Interior styling—also known as interior decorating–is all about aesthetics. We adorn a space with furniture and décor to achieve a desired aesthetic—maybe it’s mid-century modern, maybe it’s Scandinavian, maybe it’s West Coast contemporary. Whatever the aesthetic, we’ll intentionally style furniture and décor to embody the feeling we want a space to emote.

What is interior design?

When you think interior design, think all things interiors, not just styling. We work closely with architects and contractors to understand the functionality of a space—how it will be used—and plan the space around its intended use. We review floor plans, reconfigure spaces, and select finishes. And when the space is planned, we style it. Functionality meets beauty.

At Boulevard Home, we’re interior designers by trade, but interior styling is our love language. Sourcing and styling the perfect pieces for clients’ spaces is our happy place (after our own homes, of course!). Book a Design Session to discover what we can do for your space.
